There are cruise ports that are fun, there are ones that are stunning… and then there’s Tortola, part of the British Virgin Islands, where you feel like you’ve stepped straight into a postcard. During our Disney Cruise stop here, we opted for the "Explore The Baths" excursion, and let me tell you, it was one of the most breathtaking adventures I’ve ever had.

The Journey to Virgin Gorda
Our adventure began with a scenic ferry ride to Virgin Gorda, home to one of the BVI’s most iconic and naturally stunning destinations: The Baths. If you’ve never heard of them, think giant granite boulders scattered across a pristine beach, forming hidden sea caves and shallow pools you can actually explore. It’s otherworldly, like a natural playground shaped by the earth itself.
The excursion started with a hike along a rocky path through dense tropical terrain, leading down toward Devil’s Bay. If you’re up for a little adventure (and don’t mind squeezing, ducking, and climbing), you can take the guided route through the sea caves. The path winds through an intricate maze of massive boulders, where sunlight filters through cracks above and the sound of waves echoes around you.

These cavernous formations aren’t just beautiful, they’re ancient. The boulders were formed when molten rock seeped into volcanic layers underground, cooled slowly, and eventually became the hard crystalline granite we see today. Over time, erosion and weathering rounded them into the smooth, awe-inspiring shapes you now find scattered across the shoreline.
For those who prefer a more direct route, there’s also an option to skip the caves and head straight to The Baths by following a second guide. Either way, the views are unmatched.
A Slice of Paradise at Devil’s Bay
Once we emerged from the cave passage, we arrived at Devil’s Bay, a small, stunning beach cove with turquoise waters and soft white sand. We were given free time to swim, relax, and take it all in. It felt like a secret hideaway, untouched and serene. Just a heads up: there are no restrooms at Devil’s Bay, so plan accordingly!

The water was warm and unbelievably clear, and being surrounded by those towering granite boulders gave the whole experience a feeling of privacy and peace. You could easily spend hours there swimming, exploring, and snapping the most Insta-worthy photos imaginable.
Important Advisory Before You Go
This tour is physically demanding and not ideal for those with mobility concerns. It includes a strenuous hike, with extended periods of walking, standing, and leaning over. If you plan to visit Devil’s Bay and then continue through the caves, you must be able to climb steep steps, crouch through tight spaces, and wade through water. It’s 100% worth it, but definitely something to consider before booking.

Why The Baths Are a Must-See
The Baths are one of those natural wonders that you truly have to see to believe. The scale, the geology, the sheer beauty, it all comes together to create an experience that’s equal parts adventure and serenity. It’s no wonder they’re considered one of the BVI’s top sights.
Tortola itself was beautiful, but The Baths made this port stop feel like something truly extraordinary. From the caves to the coast, every moment felt magical. The kind of travel memory that stays with you long after your tan fades.
