Mountain Air & Moonshine: Our Cozy Tennessee Cabin Getaway

There’s something about Pigeon Forge that keeps pulling me back, and this time, I got to share it with my husband and our dogs, which made it even more special. This was my second time visiting, but our first as a little family, and let me just say: mountain air + cozy cabin vibes + moonshine tastings = exactly what I needed.
Cabin Life, Elevated
We rented a dog-friendly cabin tucked up in the hills, and it felt like the ultimate home-away-from-home. Two floors, two bedrooms, two porches, two indoor jacuzzi tubs, one outdoor, a pool table, and two living areas, it was equal parts rustic and relaxing, and the kind of place that made us want to stay in more than go out.
The view was absolutely incredible. Picture-perfect rolling trees, layers of country hills, and just enough chill in the air to remind you it was Tennessee in the fall. We spent a lot of time out on the porch, coffee (or wine) in hand, letting the dogs explore and taking in the peace and quiet.
Some nights we cooked at the cabin, other nights we ventured out. We played pool almost every night, made up silly competitions, and spent hours watching football games and horror movies — basically living our best low-key vacation life.
A Nostalgic Return to Dollywood
One of the highlights of the trip was heading to Dollywood, a place I hadn’t been since high school, when I visited with my family. Walking through the park again brought back a flood of memories, but what made it even more special was experiencing it all over again through new eyes, this time with my husband.
It was fun pointing out all the things I remembered from before, while also getting to discover what’s changed, what’s new, and what still makes Dollywood such a nostalgic and charming gem. The rides, the music, the food, the fall decorations. It’s got a vibe that’s just pure comfort.
Winery Sips & Moonshine Musts
We spent one afternoon at a local winery, which offered a peaceful break from the excitement of town. The wine itself? Honestly, just okay, and as a Jersey girl, I have to say, our local vineyards back home still take the crown. But the atmosphere was lovely, and it was worth a stop for a calm, relaxing experience.
But when it comes to drinks that really stood out, it was all about Ole Smoky Distillery’s “The Barn.” We ended up going more than once, and for good reason. The tasting is free (within reason), and they offer a huge variety of unique flavors.

I fell in love with the coconut and apple pie moonshine, both smooth, flavorful, and not too overpowering. The vibe there is lively, the staff are fun, and there’s live music, people dancing, and that classic Smoky Mountain energy. It’s not just a tasting; it’s an experience, and yes, we brought several jars home.
Jason Aldean’s Kitchen + Rooftop Bar: Country With a View
On one of our nights out, we headed into Downtown Gatlinburg and visited the newly opened Jason Aldean’s Kitchen + Rooftop Bar, and if you're a country fan, this place is a must-see.
The space spans three levels: the first is a gift shop, the second houses the restaurant and even more Aldean merch, and the third is a rooftop bar with string lights, mountain views, and live music on select nights.
The restaurant itself is filled with Jason Aldean memorabilia, framed photos from over the years, personal touches throughout the walls, and country music videos playing on a giant screen while you dine. My favorite part? The giant green tractor sitting at the bar, a playful nod to Aldean’s hit “Big Green Tractor.”
I ordered the fried shrimp basket with fries and coleslaw. The shrimp were perfectly crisp and flavorful, and that coleslaw? Hands down some of the best I’ve ever had — fresh, crunchy, and not at all mushy.
Matt got the 10-ounce Prime-Time Sirloin with mashed potatoes and green beans. The first plate came out overcooked, but our server was amazing and had it remade without hesitation. The second round came out perfect. The bourbon demi-glace really pulled the dish together, and while sirloin isn’t his first choice cut, he still gave it a thumbs up.
After dinner, we headed up to the rooftop bar, which doesn’t serve food but offers a full bar, live music, and one of the best views of downtown Gatlinburg you could ask for. Cozy patio lights, fresh mountain air, and good vibes all around. It was the perfect way to end the night.
Sipping at Ole Red: Blake Shelton’s Spot Delivers
Another night out took us to Ole Red, owned and operated by Blake Shelton himself. The moment you walk in, you’re greeted with open space, high energy, and a restaurant that truly leans into its country roots.
I kicked off the night with The Wardenm a dangerously smooth blend of bourbon, peach, iced tea, and fresh lemon juice. It tasted exactly like peach tea. No hint of alcohol, which made it go down a little too easily (consider yourself warned!).
Next, I tried the Dirty Tractor, made with Ole Smoky Salted Watermelon Whiskey, lime juice, and ginger ale. This one was sweeter than I expected, but still refreshing and delicious — definitely a creative, flavorful mix.
For dinner, we both ordered the Oklahoma Onion Burger, mine with a Beyond patty since I’m pescatarian. The burgers were perfectly cooked and seasoned, topped with all the fresh fixings, and the beer onions made the whole thing sing. Soft buns, juicy patties, and that savory bite of caramelized onion made it one of the better burgers I’ve had on a trip.
The fries were hot and well-seasoned, solid, but not necessarily a standout. Still, the meal as a whole? Worth it.
Final Thoughts on Our Mountain Escape
This trip was the perfect blend of nostalgia, cozy nights in, and new memories made. From Dollywood throwbacks and sipping moonshine to porch-side pool games, wine-sipping, country concerts, and burger nights — every moment felt like a breath of fresh mountain air.

You don’t need a jam-packed itinerary to feel like you’ve experienced it all. Sometimes the best vacations are the ones where you just slow down, let loose, and fully live in the moment.
We’ll be back again, maybe in a different season, maybe with more family or friends in tow, but definitely with another empty suitcase for moonshine jars, and a craving for mountain views, country bars, and cozy cabin mornings.
