Castaway Me Here Forever: Why Disney’s Private Island Has My Whole Heart

Every time I step off a Disney cruise and onto Castaway Cay, I half-jokingly (but also very seriously) consider hiding in the bushes just so I never have to leave. If I could live anywhere in the world, this would be it—crystal-clear waters, iconic Disney charm, and a private island that feels straight out of a dream.

Castaway Cay is Disney’s private slice of paradise in the Bahamas, and they’ve thought of everything—from kid-friendly adventures to adults-only escapes. It’s not just a stop on the itinerary, it’s a full-blown vacation destination.

Let’s start with the vibe: pure, peaceful, perfectly Disney. The Cast Members are some of the kindest people I’ve ever met, and they make you feel like you’re royalty. Every detail is dialed in, from the immaculate beaches to the music playing softly as you walk off the ship. It’s all magic, all day long.

If you’re looking to truly unwind, Serenity Bay, the adults-only beach, is where it’s at. It’s quiet, secluded, and the definition of peace. I bring a book, order a drink, and stretch out on a lounger with the ocean breeze brushing my face. There’s even a small patio porch near the bar with sofas and loungers—my family’s favorite spot. It’s the ultimate “do-nothing” zone, and I never want to leave.

Lunch is included, and let me tell you, it’s chef’s kiss. You can visit the buffet as many times as you want (and yes, I do). Think hot dogs, hamburgers, veggie burgers, chips, fresh fruit, macaroni and potato salad, and of course, unlimited soft serve ice cream—because it’s Disney, and we have priorities.

But it’s not all hammocks and burgers. Castaway Cay has adventure too. On my honeymoon, my husband and I did a snorkeling and stingray experience where we got to feed, pet, and swim alongside stingrays. After that, we grabbed masks and dove into the ocean for some underwater treasure hunting. Disney has placed themed statues beneath the waves—like Mickey, Minnie, and even Prince Eric from The Little Mermaid. Seeing his statue in real life, just chilling underwater, was honestly surreal.

And for families, there’s no shortage of action. Banana boats, parasailing, water bikes, kayaking—you name it. On a recent visit, I even discovered that you can do a 3.1-mile run or walk around the island. It’s a self-paced event and, yes, you get a medal! Disney details, always.

Castaway Cay isn’t just a tropical stop—it’s a place where time slows down, the water sparkles extra bright, and everything feels a little more magical. Whether you’re snorkeling with stingrays, sipping cocktails in a shaded hammock, or chasing your kids through the splash zone, this island has something for everyone.

Me? I’ll be the girl with a lounge chair, a paperback, and a plan to never leave.
